Home Learning Guidance

Dear Homer Schools Community,

I am writing to provide guidance on home learning, whether it be full-time, or in the hybrid learning model.  

District Guarantees

1. Each child will have a minimum of ten (10) minutes of interactive, real-time interaction with each teacher per subject per day.

2. The format for the ten (10) minutes of interactive, real-time interaction will be consistent across grade level/subject area.

3. Staff will be expected to communicate, weekly, with families/students to identify when interactions will take place within each class period. 

Keys to Success for Home and Hybrid Learners


Have an appropriate learning space

  • Minimize distractions.
  • Ensure technology is working.
  • Have headphones or a headset for best experience.
  • Clean, organized and separate space for learning (desk/table).

Follow your school schedule every day and attend every class

  • Attendance will be taken at every class.
  • Attending the interactive, real-time portion of online class will be critical to learning.
  • Teachers will reach out to students who have been inactive for two days.

Stay organized

  • Keep track of assignments and due dates.
  • Keep up on school work. Falling behind will make success difficult.  

Know how each teacher will be communicating daily and weekly schedules and expectations

  • Read email daily and respond to email from teachers within 24 hours (Monday – Friday).
  • Check Google Classroom daily.
  • Engage with teachers. 

Understand how Google Classroom works (SeeSaw for K and Grade 1)

  • Contact your teacher to ask for help.

Get help for technology problems

  • Call 749-1019 or find our Chromebook Help section on the district website.

Be respectful and follow classroom and school rules

  • Code of conduct still applies, including dress code, and appropriate interactions with staff and other students

I have included a sample primary and secondary student schedule to illustrate the minimum level of interactive, real-time interaction.  Teachers are able to vary where within the structure of the assigned period the interactive, real-time interaction occurs and may increase the amount of time, by the lesson.

There will be additional information to follow from your child’s teacher(s).  Student schedules, information about district pre-screening practices, school supply lists, bus route information, etc. will be arriving at your home soon.  If you have any questions concerning your child’s status after receiving the mailing from the district, please feel free to contact your child’s school.
